How it was born
Everything started from a padlock….
Cigno, a company producing bicycle padlocks and considered a jewel of the Italian manufacture since the ‘50s, has been taken over in 2006 by Bernardi Group, a leading company in the bicycle spare parts market.
Cigno is for the Bernardi brothers the opportunity to create the object of their dreams: a modern version of a retro style top level bicycle. So, in 2007 they gave life to Cigno La Bicicletta, the result of a sophisticated design, combining the chrome frame elegance of the ‘50s with the technical reliability of modern materials and parts.
A perfect mixture of vintage and contemporary styles for an exclusive bicycle, where the design purity is the proud expression of the Made in Italy product.
An exclusive bike
Cigno bicycles are not just simple means of transport but real sought-after objects: they are assembled completely manually by very good craftsmen and the great attention for the details makes each bicycle a unique piece.
The steel frame, produced with Italian raw materials, is made precious by a thick chrome plating and embellished by the ‘50s style sinuous conjunctions. The last generation accessories in aluminium recall the original ones, contributing to obtain lightweight bicycles and maintaining a light and fluent driving. The leather and hide are processed manually by expert craftsmen: from the prestigious Brooks leather saddle to the calfskin handgrips which, thanks to the inner padding, ensure a comfortable and particularly pleasant hold. Cigno padlock and the elegant newspaper holder, elements which have been restored by the Bernardi brothers from the original patents of the ‘50s, make the bicycles even more precious.
Cigno’s highly handcrafted products imply a limited production, which is identified by the series number printed on the frame of each bike.
The Company
The Cigno Bike trademark belongs to the Bernardi Group. Its history traces back to the times when granddad Guglielmo would get on his bike armed with saddles and tyres and head off to seek his fortune travelling through the towns of Romagna in search of new customers and good deals.
Later on, his son Natalino transformed this small activity into a solid and organized business by opening a laboratory in the town of Forlimpopoli. The third generation, represented by his two sons Marco and Gianluca Bernardi, have given life to a well-structured entrepreneurial reality which produces and trades high - quality bike components for more than 1000 customers in Italy.
